Melissa Sosa, senior counsel of the firm Guzmán Ariza, took part on Thursday, December 5, 2019 in Edición Nocturna, an interview show conducted by journalist and writer Miguel Guerrero, to discuss Illegal occupations by squatters in view of the recently enacted law 396-19 which regulates the granting of the public force to carry out conservatory and enforceable actions, along with other legal experts.
The show aired on CDN, channel 37, at 10:00 p.m., with a rerun the next day at 5:00 a.m.
As a result of a meeting held on December 18, 2019 between the hospitality industry and the National Wages Committee, an agreement was reached in which workers belonging to this sector will receive an increase of 12% of their salary, retroactive as of August 2019.

The Dominican Association of Exporters (ADOEXPO) and the Dominican-German Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism (CC-DA), represented by our partner and president of the Chamber, Fabio Guzmán Saladín, signed an agreement on December 4, 2019 where they establish an inter-institutional collaboration to boost trade relations between the German Federal Republic and the Dominican Republic. This initiative includes promotion, advice and trade missions; periodical publications on investment prospects in each country; courses, symposiums, fairs and exhibitions, among other actions that will be carried out jointly.
Fabio Guzmán-Saladín, partner at Guzmán Ariza, took part in a meeting between of the Central America and Caribbean Chamber of Commerce, the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry, held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 in Panama City.
This important meeting had as special guests Doctor Christian Storost, Head of Division for the Promotion of Foreign Trade an Investment, and Ms. Natascha Boussiga, Director of the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad in the Americas and Western Europe; and the Presidents of the Foreign German Chambers in Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panamá.
The topics discussed during the event included cooperation between countries and trade relations with the region.
Mr. Guzmán-Saladín attended in his role as president of the Dominican-German Chamber of Commerce.

After concluding the first auction round started on July 10th in Texas, which culminated in the concession of block 2 of the San Pedro de Macorís offshore basin on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Dominican Republic will make a new gas and oil round in the coming months to include blocks for exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in areas that were not included in the first round.
11 blocks in 4 basins remained from the First Round for which no bids were received, namely: Cibao: 6 interterritorial blocks; San Pedro de Macorís: 2 maritime blocks; Enriquillo: 2 interterritorial blocks; Azua: 1 inter-territorial block. For the new round, the Ministry will include blocks in areas that had not previously been offered, which have not been publicly disclosed yet.

Leandro Corral and María Virginia Ditrén, lawyers of the firm Guzmán Ariza, assisted to the inauguration of the Centro de Capacitación Domínico-Alemán Food & Energy, a joint initiative of the German company SUNfarming and the Universidad ISA of Santiago, D.R.
This interesting educational agro-energetic project combines the sustainable production of solar energy with food production. This model has already been successfully implemented in Turkey, Madagascar, South Africa, The Bahamas and Germany, among other countries, and was selected among the top 3 finalists in the category of sustainable development in the GreenTec 2018 awards.
The event was attended by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr. Volker Pellet and Mr. Peter Schrum President of SUNfarming, among other personalities.
Guzmán Ariza welcomed in its offices the Law Students Committee of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) for a workshop on “Office Management: Advice and Tools for Lawyers” presented by Juan Carlos Saladín, Quality Assurance Manager and Yaniris Peña, Office Manager of the firm. In this workshop the students learned about the tools and processes that helped make Guzmán Ariza one of the leading firms in the country, and listened to testimonials from some of our lawyers about their experience at the firm and our corporate culture.
