Guzmán Ariza Advises Sunwing Travel Group in one of the Single Largest non-syndicated Financings Awarded by Banco del Reservas in the Dominican Republic.

Guzmán Ariza, Attorneys at Law, advised the  in one of the single largest non-syndicated financings granted by the Banco del Reservas in the Dominican Republic.

The facility will be used by Sunwing Travel Group to complete the construction of the Royalton Bávaro Resort & Spa, at an estimated total investment of $200 million which is expected to generate thousands of jobs.

This new Blue Diamond Resorts complex (a subsidiary of Sunwing Travel Group), will be the third Royalton resort in the country and first under the Royalton Luxury Resort flag. The 730- room Resort will be built in Arena Gorda beach, Bávaro and will operate under its signature All-in Luxury® concept.

Guzmán Ariza has assisted Sunwing Travel Group since 2013 in arbitration, project finance, and investments matters, as well as in commercial contract and litigation.

Alberto Reyes is Appointed Member of the Legal Committee of the French-Dominican Chamber of Commerce

Alberto Reyes Báez, partner of Guzmán Ariza, was appointed permanent member of the Legal and Security Commission of the French-Dominican Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIFD).

The CCIFD legal committee, created in May 2017, is a permanent consultative body for the support of its members, the French and Dominican legal culture, as well as spokespersons for issues related to legal aspects of local, international, immigration and institutional trade.

Alberto Reyes has more than 13 years of experience and a postgraduate degree at the University of Paris, Panthéon – Assas.

Partner Alberto Reyes Participates as Keynote Speaker at Conference on Contract Law

Alberto Reyes Báez, partner at Guzmán Ariza Law Firm, will participate as keynote speaker at the conference The French Reform of Contract Law: A Source of Inspiration for Dominicans?, which will be held on April 7 and 8 at the Dominican Supreme Court of Justice.

Alberto Reyes, professor of Contracts at the Pontificia Universidad Madre y Maestra in Santo Domingo, will make his presentation on The Current State of Dominican Contract Law.

The activity corresponds to the first Dominican-French interactive colloquy about the present and future of contract law in France and the Dominican Republic.

Brooklyn Law School Students Visit Guzmán Ariza Law Firm

Guzman Ariza Law Firm received four students from the Brooklyn Law School as part of a collaboration agreement between the two institutions.

The Firm was proud to support the initiative of the students to complete 50 hours of legal work in Non-Profits Organizations in the region of Las Terrenas and Samaná, as part of the requirements of the New York State Bar.

Valery Cury Sepúlveda, Jasiel Morales, Erica Molina and Kristina Todorovic spent a week at the firm’s offices in Santo Domingo, Las Terrenas and Samaná learning about the legal profession and working with the Non-Profits Organizations in the Dominican Republic.

Guzman Ariza is a strong supporter of internships for college undergraduates and students from different Law Schools around the world, as part of their diversity programs.

Partner Julio Brea Guzmán Attends Conference of the International Bar Association in Argentina

Julio Brea Guzmán, partner at Guzmán Ariza Law Firm, attended the conference Mergers and Acquisitions in Latin America presented by the International Bar Association (IBA) Corporate and Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Law Committee and the IBA Latin American Regional Forum.

The conference, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on March 15,16 and 17, identified trends and opportunities in the Latin American M&A market and commented on the continued and increased growthe of multilatin companies.

Julio Brea Guzmán is a member of the IBA Corporate and M&A Law Committee, as well as the Litigation and Real Estate Committee.

Dominican Republic Law Firm Guzmán Ariza is Celebrating its 90th Anniversary

Developing Countries Allowed to Import Generic Drugs

An amendment to the agreement on intellectual property entered into force securing for developing countries a legal pathway to access affordable medicines under World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.

The amendment to the Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property (TRIPS) agreement provides a secure and sustained legal basis for both potential exporters and importers to adopt legislation and establish the means needed to allow countries with limited or no production capacity to import affordable generics from countries where pharmaceuticals are patented.

The TRIPS amendment gives the world’s most vulnerable people access to drugs for diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

Fabio Guzmán-Ariza joins the International Association of Managing Partners

The Managing Partner of Guzmán Ariza, Fabio J. Guzmán-Ariza, was invited to join the International Association of Managing Partners (IAMP), as a founding member of its Dominican chapter.

The IAMP is a global association for the Managing Partners of local, national and international law firms. Founded in London in 2004, it has grown to a worldwide membership of more than 350 individuals, ranging from sole practitioners to the leaders of some of the world’s largest law firms.

The association has chapters in more than 70 countries and now is launching its chapter in the Dominican Republic.

Mr. Guzmán-Ariza has been the managing partner of Guzmán Ariza since 1985 and has served as counsel to local and international corporations and individuals on Dominican legal issues for more than 35 years.
